Watercolor Illustration of the Barn at Grace Hill

March 23, 2019 Emilee Stucky

I had the honor to watercolor paint the The Barn at Grace Hill and print some notecards for them as well. I know I say this all the time, but this may have been my favorite watercolor project to date. I’m so grateful for the Balzers and the support and growth they have brought to my business. I don’t think I could ever fully repay them for their hospitality, generosity, and encouragement, but this painting and the cards were a project of love for them to try and say just that.

I also had the opportunity to create their line illustration of the barn that is on their infamous bar chalkboard.

But I wanted this piece to feature a straight-on angle and capture the Kansas colors and beautiful golden tones of their property. I used my favorite Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith watercolor paints, along with my Princeton Heritage watercolor brushes to paint this piece. After it was finished and dried, I scanned the piece, and edited it slightly in Illustrator to bring out the details that were lost in the scanning process, and then printed them on size A2 notecards for the Balzers.

The other great benefit to scanning watercolor pieces and digitizing them, is now I’ll be able to use it for future B@GH stationery clients. Are there any B@GH brides that want to use this hand-painted illustration as an envelope liner or invitation backing with my invitation suite offerings? I’m pretty sure it would be lovely. ☺️
